Lawrence A. Zumo,MD was born in and completed high school in Liberia. He graduated from the University Of Debrecen, Medical And Health Sciences Center in Hungary with a medical degree in 1993 . He was a medicinal chemistry researcher for several years before he became a laboratory demonstrator in the Institute for Human Physiology at the University of Debrecen, Hungary. His MD thesis on “Thymectomy in Myasthenia Gravis” was successfully defended and awarded in September 1993.
He is currently a Clinical Professor of Neurology as well as Attending Neurologist, University of Maryland, Capital Regional Center at Largo, Maryland.. He was a 1999 Kiffen Penry Epilepsy Fellow as well as a 2000 Roxane Scholar in HIV Neuropathy at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions under the tutelage of neuroepidemiologist, Professor Justin McArthur. He is the author of “An Awesome Run”, a book that reveals inspiration for everyone to strive with confidence in their quest for a better education and life despite insurmountable odds. He is also a coauthor of "Djogbachiachuwa: Liberian Literature Anthology as well as Neuroradiology in Clinical Practice, Springer.com, 2013, a text for medical students, residents and nurse practitioners to cover a critical gap in modern medical education.. He is also solo author of :: The Nobody Manifesto and You, which deals with themes of social neuroscience and strategic decision making for a broader audience. He is a coapplicant (along with his son, Kesselly Zumo) for the EZE-Flap patent application at the US Patent Office (app# US20100168527A1). He is a board certified neurologist with added qualifications in autonomic neurology, psychiatry and clinical forensics. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and Corresponding Member of the European Academy of Neurology. He is fluent in English, Hungarian and Bassa as well with basic conversational ability in Italian, Spanish and French. He, along with his wife, established the Center for Epllepsy and Neurologic Diseases In Liberia in 2020. Website: www.cendlib.org.

- Medicinal plants of Africa for use in the treatment of epilepsy and other neurologic diseases
- The isolation, characterization and titration of Ibogaine, chemical active compound from the tropical plant, T. Iboga, for the use in the treatment of drug addiction and opioid withdrawal.
